Hi all I am not yet a Saab owner but think i may be soon enough. I was looking at a ''99 9-5 and was told that there is a common problem w/ them going into reverse. And the one i am looking at has had the trans replaced (5 spd BTW) and the trans they replaced it w/ now has the same problem. Other wise are they good cars i am really only looking for a beater you know an A to B car but i want to be able toi have fun on the commute. Look forward to getting to know some of you!

Save yourself the trouble and stay away from the 1st model year 9-5. Get a late entry 2000 or 2001. Lots of options and lots of these still available. I''m sporting 177K on my 2001 9-5 as a DD, finishing up some mods and plan to drive until the V6 gives out at which point it is a new engine. I get 31 mpg highway.
