something draining battery - 11/25/2007 2:43:40 PM    e_900se   Posts: 10 Score: 0 Joined: 5/14/2007 Status: offline i have a new alternator and battery, now there is something that is draining my battery while the car is off.  i removed the fuse for the alarm system because i thought that might be the problem, but it is still occuring.  if anyone has any suggestions as to what the problem might be it would be much appreciated.  thank you Post #: 1

RE: something draining battery - 3/6/2008 9:02:13 PM    crwchf01   Posts: 19 Score: 0 Joined: 12/16/2007 Status: offline Check and make sure the clock and any accessories you may have added are turned off.  Clock running will draw power and if you use the smallest battery they recommend you can drain it in 2 weeks or less. Aftermarket stereoes are notorious for this if they have clock functions.  Agree with Hawaiisaab 93, check for draw with key off, the pull fuses to narrow the area while the ammeter is hooked up.  Also look for any "repairs" done that may be miswired. Also consider to have your starter checked, and look for corrosion in your battery cables- you may not be recharging your battery fully. (in reply to hawaiisaab93) Post #: 3

Replacing it in the saab is tricky, the wiring harness though standard has to be installed differently. if you or the person that installed it didnt reverse the yellow and red wires, then that could cause it to happen. the red wire is the constant hot to the radio to retain memory settings, which is low draw and wont drail your power, the yellow wire is for ignition power, to power the radio. if the wires are not reversed in the saab then the actual radio power will draw from the battery directly, causing the battery to die. As far as a short... just figure out what isn''t working, all the way down to the smallest lights. (in reply to crwchf01) Post #: 4
