Alexis -> Am I being suckered? (1/2/2008 12:06:54 PM)

I have a '96 Saab 900 S. I need new brakes. I took it to a local mechanic, they want 700+ bucks. 275 for the pump part that they have to order,125 for brakes, 200 er so for labor,50 for each roter(SP) and 40 for the pads. They are fixing the radiator /overheating problem for about 400 bucks. Plus 2 back tires. Which they say must be fixed b/c its killing the life of the engine. So in total they want about 1100 for it all. I am the poster child of what not to do with your car. I have tried many times to do my own research and not be taken advantage of. Im freggin clueless, and I have no idea if these are normal prices. I don't mind paying for work and materials. It just bothers me so much b/c I am a single female and I always feel like im being taken advantage of b/c of my car ignorance. I paid 1,200 for the car. I understand you get what you pay for, but do these prices sound about right? Thanks in adavnce.[:)]
