Hi all,

I just bought an '06 Saab 9-3 2.0T, I gone through the manual and it says Saab recommends 90 for Gas, but the dealership told me 87 is fine. So I'm confused and wonder what type of gas people are using for this Saab model. Any comments will be appreciated :)

I too was a bit confused about this. the maual states aon 90, but the dealer told me 87 was fine. Im still on my original tank of gas (157 miles), so I have not had to refuel yet. Have you tried any other grade of gasoline? If so, any performance increase?

From reading various internet sites/forums, I get the sense that the general consensus is as follows:
1) Use 87 if performance is not an issue to you
2) Use above 87 grades if you wana make sure your engine and especially your turbo charger is utilized at it's full potential
3) Don't use anything above 90 because you'll just be wasting money.
The way I do it is if gas price is high, I fill it with 89. If gas price isn't too bad, then I would do 1 tank of 89, and next tank of 91 when I'm about half way through the previous tank. That way you get approximately 90. I feel slightly more powerful acceleration with 91 than 89 ( I don't think I've ever filled 87).

The engine management system in these cars is designed to adapt to any type of gas 87-up that you put in it.  If you don't have a lead foot and aren't revving the car to the redline all the time I wouldn't worry.  I ran 87 in my car for a while and than switched to 93.
