1aero1 -> Suspension Questions (12/23/2006 1:56:00 PM)

I am a newbe and need some help.

I own a 9.5 Aero wagon with 85k and is running great but now need some input regarding the rear suspension.

I changed over my 225 45 17 michilen piolts to my gislaved nordforst 3's for the winter and now noticed a chnage in the way the rear end of the car feels. I know the snows which are 215 55 16 make the car drive differently (this is the second year with them) but this is something different. It feels like the rear end has a mind of it own over rough road. The drives straight and no alignment issues on smooth pavement.

The question is how do you know when your shocks or struts are shot?

I lowered the tire pressure and drove it same thing, I raised the pressure same thing. I am thinking it's something in the rear end not the change over from summer to winter tires.

Does someone have any suggestions on my next  move? And if shocks are shot do I go after market or go with OEM replacement parts?

Thanks

try to look at the shocks.  If the body of the shock has oil stains it is probably shot.  Another test is this: Press hard onto a corner of the car and see how many times it bounces up and down.  Anything over 2 times is too much.
